# BNB token

BNB is the native cryptocurrency of the BSC community and it has been a part of the exchange’s growth trajectory since its inception. 

It's most important use is to pay for transactions (gas) fees that allow the network to run.

BNB was first introduced in 2017. Initially the token’s total supply was capped at 200,000,000, but due to the quarterly token burning events, the supply has reduced considerably.
